On this site, you will find over 180 works of art created by J.W. Waterhouse. Waterhouse's career spanned five decades: his earliest known works date from the early 1870s, his latest from just before his death in February 1917. Waterhouse painted primarily in oils, rarely in watercolour. Several of his sketchbooks have survived which offer an insight into his working methods. Waterhouse often experimented with the same theme such as Ophelia, Circe, Miranda, The Lady of Shalott.
