Welcome to the brand new John William Waterhouse website. It has been completely rewritten and redeveloped from scratch, and a number of 'blog type' features added. It is still a 'work in progress' so additions (and tweaks, based on any feedback I get) will be added on a regular basis going forward. The site has been designed to act as a resource aimed to promote Waterhouse's work, and to aid in the shared research of his artistic career, the models, and personal life. It is targetted both towards the casual admirer of Waterhouse pictures, plus those who are interested in doing their own research into various aspects of Waterhouse's life. Here's a rundown of the primary features available: ARTICLESThe majority of articles which were on the old Waterhouse website have been updated and categorized into sections: Biography, Contemporary Commentary, Photographs, The Models, and so forth. There is a new section called 'Acquaintances' which aims to gather together listings of artists, collectors, models, patrons and writers who were associated with Waterhouse. One aim for this is to help unearth any correspondence, or even pictures, that descendants of these acquaintances may still own. Many of the people in the listings are extremely obscure today, and, most likely, have not been the subject of in-depth studies by specialist art historians. There are still a couple of articles from the old Waterhouse website which are not available yet, but they will be published again within the next couple of days. PICTURESAll of the images from the old site are still available. I'm currently adding additional images, plus 'zoom' images for many of the images, and will update the front page of the website when new images have been added. SHOPA 'shop' section has been added, consisting of a list of affiliate links to online websites that offer Waterhouse related merchandise -- for example, prints, books, calendars etc. Most purchases made via these links will help support this website. FAQA stab at a Frequently Asked Questions section has been started based on the most often asked questions posted on the old Waterhouse message board. Again, this section will be a work in progress. MEMBERS AREAThere is now a new message board with more powerful functionality. Messages from the old website will be available in a special archive section (not available yet). Members can also comment on other articles.
I hope you enjoy the new site - Julia Kerr, editor, johnwilliamwaterhouse.com
