Waterhouse in Paris?

MESSAGE:
Hi, I'm just wondering if anyone knows of any of Nino's work in the French capital? I'm not aware of any but, as I'm going there in a few weeks, I'd hate to find out afterwards that I'd missed something of his.

Cheers,

Jim

 RESPONSES:

Hi Jimma
I'm certain your right, there are no JW Waterhouse paintings on dispaly in Paris.

I'll be there May 18 to May 25, before going out to see every Bastien-Lepage I can locate in Lorainne.

Cheers
Neil
Hi Neil,

I never thought of looking for Bastien-Lepage. I'll look about (I've checked the Louvre and they don't seem to have any).

I also think the Fench capital would be much improved if they housed a Waterhouse ;o)

Cheers,

Jim
Lepage has a single painting at the Orsay (not sure if it is there, last year it went to Brasil on tour and the Orsay has lent a lot of its collection during renovations). Could be at the Paris Muse de Beaux Arts. There are other Naturalist artists represented at the Orsay that are interesting.

Most Lepage that you will see in France are at Montmedy (39 works at a museum of his work), Nancy (a couple), Metz (a couple). The Montmendy Museum is in the Citadel, which was the place Loui was running to at teh beginning of the Revolution, and then was the last place in France to surrender at the end of the Napoleon Wars (I'm full of trivia).

There is one in New York (Jean de Arc) and possibly others elsewhere in the States. Fortunately for me we have The Potatoe Pickers in Melbourne.

Cheers
Neil
