Question about Fair Rosamund
MESSAGE:
I'm new to this board and had a question about "Fair Rosamund" if anyone can help. Recently at the Waterhouse exhibit in Montreal I saw the study for "Fair Rosamund" but couldn't help but wondering where the final version of the painting is. Does anyone know what museum has the original painting, or if perhaps it belongs to a private collector instead? I have tried to research it on the internet unsuccessfully, and would appreciate any information.
Thanks!
Christine
RESPONSES:
Hi Christine,
As far as I'm aware it's in a private collection, as stated in Peter Trippi's book on Waterhouse published in 2002. Anthony Hobson's book has it down as Christie's but that was in 1989, so I presume somewhere between those dates it was sold to a private collector who I'm afraid I don't know the identity of. I'd like to know myself as it's a favourite of mine. Sorry I can't be of more help!
Kind regards,
Jim
Thanks for your response, Jim! It's one of my favorites, too -- that's why I asked about it!
Wishing we knew the collection it is currently in.
Julia has included an interesting article,
The Last Exhibition on the website (you may have already found it?) related to the history of the painting.
Fair Rosamund was included in 1917 along with three others works after Waterhouse's death.
