Irene Smirnova - 'the magic of mysterious gardens'
MESSAGE:
"I have read in one of the reviews that the exhibition of J.W. Waterhouse in the Montreal Fine Arts Museum is a must see event. And it is absolutely true. I am impatient, but decided to take the painful stairs in this museum again, despite the fact that there is an elevator to the 3d floor, where the exhibition is taking place. There is something about these stairs that makes the whole experience even more mysterious. Draped in black, embellished with vines, the exhibition is staged as an enchanted journey into the poetic world of Waterhouse. I was mesmerized by the paintings, by the soft sounds that whispered poetry, by the experience so delicately staged. For the first time i saw all paintings "The Lady of Shalott" by Waterhouse together. It gave me the unforgettable experience and insight how Waterhouse developed the work.
When we were standing in front of "A Mermaid", the reflection of the water gliding in my daughters eyes wide open made me think about how easy it is to forget the magic of mysterious gardens we all believed in when we were little...' -
