The Hendersons and Buscot Park

MESSAGE:
I've added a brief biography for one of Waterhouse's patrons, Alexander Henderson, 1st Lord Faringdon The 1st Lord Faringdon lived at Buscot Park, very close to Kelmscott Manor where William Morris owned a home, and he owned a large collection of 19th century art. Unfortunately most of it was sold off in the 1930s, but Burne-Jones' Briar Rose series remains on view there, along with a Pre-Raphaelite room (works by GF Watts, Lord Leighton, Millais, Rossetti), and also two of Waterhouse's portraits of the Henderson family: Portrait of Lady Violet Henderson and Portrait of Mrs Margaret Schreiber. Other artists who painted the Hendersons include Walter Sickert and Sir William Orpen. If you're going to Buscot Park, you need to time a visit there carefully because Waterhouse's portraits are on the top floor which is closed off to the public during the week, and are accessible on weekends only. The house is still lived in, it's the family home of the 3rd Lord Faringdon. Another Waterhouse picture I came across a while ago is of Aline Henderson - it's listed as 'Portrait Head of Aline Henderson', and is in a beautiful ornately gilded frame: Looks like she requested to be drawn as a 'Waterhouse Girl'!

 RESPONSES:

Would love to see a photograph of Aline Henderson.
I meant to mention that I had sent an email to see if a photograph was available and someone from the Estate Office at Buscot Park wrote back to say no. (But, I will keep looking.)
'Looks like she requested to be drawn as a 'Waterhouse Girl'!' Requested or not -- She is!
Yes! :)
