Brief Biography:LUCAS, John Seymour, R.A., R.I. (1849-1923) Painter in oil and watercolour of historical subjects, portraits, genre and landscapes. Born in London on 21st December 1849, nephew of the portrait painter John Lucas (1807-74). Studied art at the R.A. Schools. Elected A.R.A. 1886, R.A. 1898, R.I. 1877. In 1914 he was commissioned to paint a large fresco of The Flight of the Five Members 1642 for the House of Commons. Lived in London and died on 8th May 1923.
