Brief Biography:HATHERELL, William, R.I., R.O.I., R.W.A. (1855-1928) Painter in oil and water-colour of historical, literary and figure subjects; illustrator. Born in London on 18th October 1855. Studied at the R.A. Schools 1877-79 and exhibited at the R.A. and R.W.S. from 1879. Elected R.I. 1888, R.O.I. 1898 and R.W.A. 1903. Hon. member of the Langham Sketching Club 1900 and a member of the American Society of Illustrators 1905. At first illustrated for Cassell's including Picturesque Australia. Joined the staff of The Graphic in 1892 and also worked for some American magazines. Illustrated many works by Thomas Hardy, William Black and J.M. Barrie. Died in Londonon 7th December 1928.
