Brief Biography

HAMILTON, Vereker Monteith, R.E. (1856-1931)

Painter of military subjects. Born at Hafton, Argyll on 14th February 1856. Studied art under Legros at the Slade School where he won the landscape painting prize in 1886. Exhibited at the R.A. from 1886 and at the Paris Salon. Elected R.E. 1887. Lived in London and later at Cowden in Kent.

"HAMILTON: 2/2/4 1900 Jan 8-1902 Mar 12. Various correspondence of Hamilton's brother Vereker Monteith Hamilton, including letter from John William Waterhouse, artist, inviting Vereker to join the Artists' War Fund, 8 Jan 1900;"
