Brief Biography:

FRIPP, Charles Edwin, A.R.W.S. (1854-1906)

Painter in water-colour of figure and military subjects. Born on 4th September 1854, son of George Arthur Fripp, R.W.S. (1813-96). Studied in Nuremburg and Munich. Worked for The Graphic for many years and acted as their correspondent during the Kaffir War 1878, the Zulu War 1879, the Boer Wars 1881 and 1900, in the Sudan 1885, Japan 1885-90, Alaska 1898 and the Philippines 1899. Also visited Canada. Exhibited at the principal London galleries from 1880, chiefly at the R.W.S. but also the R.A. Elected A.R.W.S. 1885. Died on 20th September 1906.
