In December 2003, a large number of paintings from the Seymour Stein collection were auctioned at Sotheby's, New York.
Included were three paintings by John William Waterhouse: The Siren, Sleep and his Half-Brother Death, and a study for The Awakening of Adonis. Photographs of the paintings in their frames are shown below.
