As so little personal information is known about John William Waterhouse, researching the lives and correspondence of his friends may help unearth additional nuggets of information.

One of the problems with many of the Victorian / Edwardian artists is that their art fell out of fashion for such a long time that there was very little interest among later art historians in researching their lives. Thus, much information has been lost, both in terms of documentation and memories -- many of the people who would have known these artists, or have heard stories of them from relatives, are now deceased.
